{The bead necklace my dad made for me in his activity group. Every time I look at them, I think of him.}
This past Sunday Will & I took my dad and sister out to lunch for my once every 2 week visit with him. On a Sunday in good ‘ol B-town everything closes early! Literally. Everything.
It took 3 different places before we found a spot that was open. A little Mexican restaurant, with one patron in it. The lady who greeted/waited on us was very sweet & welcoming. She told us they normally end up with the customers of the restaurants that close @ 2pm! Really?! The food was descent, but Will & I just had Mexican food the day before, and well let’s just say it wasn’t settling in my tummy very well.
As many times as I come to Benicia (at least twice monthly), I never really stop to reflect, or think about my life when I lived there. It’s a combination of good, bad, and complicated memories. I’d like to say it’s where I grew up, and that it feels like home every time I come back, but the reality is, is that I started my Junior year of high school there (it was quite the adjustment & a bit complicated, but I do have to say I made some really good friends, whom I am still friends with til this day), and graduated. Visited my dad there for my weekend visits & helped out at the family restaurant doing dishes when I was a kid (product of divorced parents), and lived there in my early twenties while in a very tumultuous relationship.
Yea, that pretty much sums it up.
But after our visit with my dad and sister, we decided to walk down First Street, which is the main “downtown” area of this little town. It’s filled with independent restaurants, little boutiques, and lots of antique shops! It’s also where my dad’s side of the family’s restaurant was. They now rent it out to another Chinese family.
It was extremely windy this day, as you will witness in some later shots.
{We spotted this little family of ducks and couldn’t resist taking a few shots of them.}
{I literally felt like I was being blown away!}
{We spotted this little cutie trying to run away from his dad. Doesn’t he look like a baby Kevin James?}
{This is where I use to work my Senior year of high school. It totally doesn’t look anything like it use to when I worked there. New owners. The only thing that remains the same is the “Java Point” logo. My old boss, Candy was one kooky lady! She was having an affair with the lawyer upstairs. I know, total small town drama! But I had some pretty good times here, and the food was delish! Especially our red clam chowder! Yum!}
{I finally had to put my hair in a bun! I looked like a freakin troll doll from all the wind!}
{Ahhh…and finally the old stompin grounds! The day I turned 21, this is where I had my first legal drink! I was ready to pass out after 30 minutes of being there. Ha, ha!}
I guess it’s good to reflect every now and then. But my focus definitely is living in the present and looking forward to my future.
