I came across this fun little IFB project yesterday while browsing through my daily links, and thought, why the heck not? The “What’s in your bag” has been a fashion blog staple, and felt it was a necessary endeavor to participate.
And with a deadline being this Wednesday (Aug. 24th), I had ample time too!
{handbag-vintage Coach from Ebay, wallet-Hobo from Ebay, velvet makeup bag-Anthro bridal shower gift, sunnies-S.E.E., specs-Optical Underground, Sephora compact mirror- FREE, cell-Blackberry Storm, work key, random Anthro receipts, checkbook, old pack of Orbit gum, a pack of mint tea, and movie ticket for Horrible Bosses}
{in the makeup bag: eyedrops for both contacts & non-contacts use, Burt’s Bees lip balm, Guerlain lip laquer in Kiss Kiss, Nars compact lip brush, Benefit lipgloss in Sugar Cookie, MAC lipglass in Lust, Oral B floss}
So I’m suppose to specifically answer these two questions,
1. Why are these items in your handbag?
2. Does it describe the type of person you are?
Well first off, there are the obvious necessities in my handbag, like my wallet, checkbook, and Blackberry. We all need these items for lawful, purchasing, and communicating needs. I love my Hobo wallet, which I scored used on Ebay a few years back. It has an abundant amount of room to carry all my cards, cash, and change! I thought the size of it would be too big, but it has worked out just fine, and I can use it as a little clutch when I need to.
By the way, I’m sort of amazed how many items I can actually carry in my modest little Coach satchel. With the craze for satchels this past year I of course jumped on the band wagon, but also knowingly I couldn’t afford the Proenzas and Mulberrys, and felt this did the trick quite nicely. It’s not too big, nor too small, and sturdy enough to handle multiple items. I like that it has structure and several little compartments. A pocket in the back, front, and a little zippered pocket in the main compartment.
Plus I’m a complete sucker for a nice brown leather handbag!
I have several neutral shades of lipgloss in my nicely worn-in velvet makeup bag, one because I had finally found the perfect neutral shade for my lips, Benefit’s Sugar Cookie! But sadly they had discontinued it, and am actually down to the last of it, which is why I have the Nars lip brush to help me get every last ounce of it! The other glosses are backups and I normally use some sort of combination of all 3. I will definitely be on the hunt again once all of my Benefit shade is all gone. The floss is for those times when I get things stuck in my teeth. I’ve had several instances in my life where I had food stuck in my teeth after eating lunch, and no one saying a word to me! So embarrassing. No more! I now always check my teeth in my Sephora compact mirror before I head out with floss in hand.
I carry my eyeglasses as a backup for the unexpected emergency that I may need to throw my contacts away, and obviously sunnies are needed for those very bright days. The old movie ticket was from a movie night with the hubby a few weeks back. The old pack of gum was given to me by my husband when I desperately needed a piece, though it maybe time to throw it out. Old Anthro receipts are from lot’s of shopping therapy, and the pack of mint tea I had taken to give to my hubby to help settle an upset stomach he had last week.
I never gave it to him.
I have a love/hate relationship with my Blackberry. It’s the first edition Storm, so it has it’s faults. Like a freezing touch screen! It does this from time to time which is completely annoying. I do have to admit I have dropped it several times, which is evident with the nice big crack on my screen. I keep a picture of my adorable nephew Matteo wearing the “My Favorite Aunt got me this onesie” that I got him as my screensaver, because I miss him sooo much! He lives in Belgium now, but he’ll be visiting in October, and I can’t wait to give him lot’s of hugs and kisses from his favorite auntie!
Do I think my handbag or the contents of it describe the person that I am? Yes, and no. I do believe in simplicity, which I believe is described in the type of handbag I use for my every day. But I can also be quite messy, which I think is described by the amount of receipts, old gum packet, movie ticket, and tea bag. But not to it’s fullest extent. I would say right now my handbag is quite tame.
I always aim to be very organized & prepared (I normally carry blotting papers in my handbag too, but I have no idea where I put them at the moment), which I tend to start off being, but in the end it all does get a little out of order, and or I leave things behind.
At that point, it’s time to ring it all back in.
I hope you had fun taking a peek inside my handbag, it definitely helped me get re-organized. If you want and/or have the time to participate, submit your own handbag and it’s contents here.
Happy bag dumping!
